Traffic to shift to westbound lanes of Baseline Road Wednesday for next phase of sanitary sewer project

Beginning Wednesday, April 20, Baseline Road between Foothills and 55th Street will experience a new traffic pattern. Eastbound traffic will be moved to one of the westbound lanes to allow for the next phase of work on the Foothills and Baseline Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project. Crews will be installing sanitary sewer piping for the next two to three months. Baseline will remain closed east of 55th Street as work on the new sewer line continues until paving east of 55th Street is complete.

Manhattan Drive will remain open except for a short period while the project crosses the intersection. Sidewalks on the south side of Baseline Road will be closed for safety. Bikes can detour around the project area using the multi-use path west of Foothills and Pennsylvania Avenue. Information on detours and delays for RTD Route 225 transit service can be found here.

Construction for the project began on Baseline Road in January 2022 and is expected to be completed this summer. The project includes replacing 7,300 linear feet of aging sanitary sewer piping and will address aging infrastructure, improve the city’s wastewater collection system to help prevent back-ups like those seen during the September 2013 flood and ensure city utility customers are served in their wastewater needs for years to come.

Throughout this project, community members should expect to experience traffic impacts along Baseline Road and Thunderbird Drive. Please check the city's Cone Zones for current traffic impacts. Message boards will be placed along impacted routes prior to any roadway closures.

Some utility customers will experience brief sewer service outages to allow construction crews to connect homes to the new sewer line. All impacted customers will receive notification prior to any planned service interruptions.
